GQ Designer of the Year

http://men.style.com/gq/features/landing?id=content_7639

No surprise, really. Thom Browne is considered by many to be the groundbreaking designer of our time. And considering his style, you either love it or you don't. It seems that GQ fits into the former.

I don't know how I feel about the choice. On one hand I appreciate the clean, simplified lines of his more traditional 'everyman' wardrobe (his horrid runway outfits are another story). On the other I despise the 'too short, too small' look he has going. It's like the 1960s all over again, but shrunk to undesirable levels.

You know how the fashion business works; right now it's all skinny ties, tight suits, 60s retro. Then the designers will need us to shop again and it'll be pleated, high-waisted trousers and constructed shoulders again. Then Mr. Browne will be looking for a new gig. That's why men (and women for that matter) have to find their own style trad, vintage, preppy, whatever and fashioned can be cheerfully ignored!

Thom Browne, for any man seeking to function in an environment where he must be taken seriously, is a total joke. Show me a an attorney arguing a case, a banker managing a commercial loan portfolio or an account executive interfacing with high level clients while wearing these Pee Wee Herman outfits and I'll .ease up on Uncle Thom

Agreed, anyone wearing one of his suits anywhere other than New York City would be laughed out of town. Real professionals don't dress the Browne way, wannabees do.
But, unfortunately, it seems to be taking hold in the fashion industry. Let's hope it doesn't spread any farther.

Looks terrible. I like the look in Chinatown (nicholson) and LA Confidential the Jack character
